Native American Actors- Wes Studi

There are many Native American movies that one can watch to learn more about the culture of First Americans. However, such a thing would not be possible unless the characters in the movie resemble Native American Indian individuals as much as possible, and this is why many Native American actors and Native American actresses have started to become increasingly popular. Here one can read more about Wes Studi, the Native American actor best known from Dances with Wolves.

Wes Studi was born in 1947 as Wesley Studi, and he became a Cherokee actor best known for portraying Native Americans in movies and television series. One of the movies that gained him wide recognition was Dances with Wolves, where he portrayed Pawnee, but he also played in very well known and well received movies such as The Last of the Mohicans (Magua), Geronimo: An American Legend, and The New World. Each of these movies has gained an award of some sort or has been at least nominated for one. Recently, Wes Studi performed in Kings, an NBC series and in Avatar, the well acclaimed box office blockbuster from James Cameron.

Studi went to school at the Chilocci Indian Agricultural School and after being discharged from the Army, he continued his studies at the Tulsa Junior College. After becoming an actor and after being recognized for his role in Dances with Wolves, Studi started getting more and more contracts in movies which earned recognition all around the world. At the same time, he continued appearing in TV series. In 2009 he portrayed Major Ridge in Trail of Tears, the 3rd episode of We Shall Remain. This TV series was especially designed to portray the Native history as an important part of American history. During these series he spoke Cherokee, his native language.
